The eye plunges into a weave of pink, purple, magenta and deep violet nuances – and quickly realises that something unusual is happening here. Beneath the surface, luminous colour bodies with a glossy appearance shimmer, while velvety-matte zones and broad, gently veiling bands lie above them. This interplay of matte and glossy makes the work appear like two paintings in one. Technical description:
The piece is built up in many layers of squeegee technique. Wide pulls, narrower passages and partially applied layers overlap to form a dense, vibrant surface. The lower layers carry the more intense, seemingly glossy colours, while the upper, more matte fields and patches create an almost textile, velvety effect. In the details, finely nuanced violet and purple sections appear, punctuated by warmer, earthy accents that give the composition additional depth.
The canvas is stretched on a stable gallery stretcher frame of around 3.5 cm depth; the continuously painted edges enhance its sculptural presence on the wall and make the work appear as an autonomous body of colour within the space.
