Supernova
Artist: Michael-Alexander Stoll
100 × 120 cm – acrylic on canvas – original artwork
A supernova is the moment when a celestial body breaks apart and its stored energy is released as light, colour and movement into space. This instant is captured in “Supernova”: the eye is drawn into the rotating centre while luminous streams of colour erupt outwards. The painting speaks of the force with which a state is shattered and a completely new order begins to form.
Technical description:
“Supernova” is a technically elaborate work that combines two distinct main techniques. At the centre lies high-precision pouring in extremely fine, almost millimetre-accurate layers: concentric circles in blue, petrol, green and violet tones that resemble the deeper core of a planet. Around this, the second technique explodes – a controlled spray-out technique in which highly viscous paint is propelled from the centre and guided across the canvas in dynamic trajectories.
The broken, partially crusted paint layer surrounding the “planet” evokes tearing craters and flowing lava: strong reds, oranges and yellows meet metallic gold accents that appear to glow in the light. Fine splashes and lines lie across a deep black ground like fragments and debris trails, visually recalling the stillness of outer space. The painting is worked on an approximately 3.5 cm deep gallery stretcher frame whose edges are included in the composition, giving the work an object-like presence in the room.
Colour psychology & spatial impact:
The radiant reds, oranges and yellows stand for energy, courage, determination and the moment of breakthrough. They embody the power with which something old is shattered so that development becomes possible. The cooler blue and petrol tones of the centre bring depth, clarity and focus – like a calm core within a powerful transformation process. Golden particles add sparkling highlights reminiscent of stardust and light trails, giving the work an exclusive, high-end character.
In an interior, “Supernova” concentrates the energy of a turning point. It is a painting for environments where transformation, bold decisions and clear direction are essential. The mid-size format of 100 × 120 cm belongs to the most collected sizes in contemporary abstract painting – visually present and space-defining, yet flexible enough to integrate into offices, conference zones and private living areas.
Recommended placement:
“Supernova” is ideal for executive floors, meeting rooms, creative studios, think tanks or company reception areas where innovation, change and decisiveness should be visibly communicated. In private interiors, the work unfolds its impact above a sideboard, in open-plan living areas, media rooms or home offices – anywhere a strong, inspiring statement of momentum and powerful change is desired.
