The Hiding Dragon
Artist: Maryna Stoll
100 × 100 cm – Acrylic on canvas – original artwork
A dragon that does not push itself into the foreground, but gathers its strength in the background: “The Hiding Dragon” is an abstract, almost monochrome work in which movement, metallic sheen and stillness merge. On a calm white ground, a network of black sweeps, golden paths and silvery-grey spray traces stretches across the surface – like the trail of a being that appears and then disappears again.
Technical description:
The painting is built up in several layers with dynamic sweeps and a precise spray-out technique. The clear white ground forms the base; above it lie deep black, calligraphic forms that move through the composition like a body. In the left area of the painting, the head of a dragon emerges from one of these forms – a coincidental but clearly readable figure that was later partially covered by additional layers. Golden colour paths break across it, interwoven with silvery-metallic splashes and fine droplets that evoke sparks, mist or swirling smoke.
The 3.5 cm deep gallery canvas gives the work an object-like presence so that “The Hiding Dragon” appears on the wall more like an independent element in the room than just a flat surface.
Colour psychology & spatial impact:
The deliberately reduced palette of white, black, gold and metallic silver creates an elegant, understated atmosphere:
• The white ground stands for clarity, hygiene and openness – ideal for healthcare environments.
• Black arcs set calm, powerful anchors and give the work structure and depth without appearing aggressive.
• The warm gold adds a sense of value, confidence and refinement – like a precious element that remains visible in everyday life.
• Silvery-grey spray-out passages contribute a light, almost technical freshness and soften the weight of the black.
Overall, the work is clearly present without being too loud: it offers talking points for those who look more closely, while remaining neutral enough not to polarise different viewers – an important factor in waiting rooms and public spaces.
Recommended placement:
“The Hiding Dragon” is particularly suitable for medical practices, therapy and coaching rooms, clinics, rehabilitation centres, dental practices, reception areas of health centres and modern corporate spaces (such as meeting or consulting rooms, executive offices, high-quality foyers). The calm, bright mood conveys professionalism and cleanliness, while the dynamic lines symbolise inner strength and movement.
In private interiors, the work fits perfectly in living and dining areas, a spacious home office or a modern gallery-style hallway where a single clear statement piece is desired.
Sealed with Swiss varnish in museum quality — hand-sprayed in two layers.
Pricing structure and collector value:
Square formats such as 100 × 100 cm belong to the present yet highly versatile sizes in contemporary abstract painting: they offer enough surface to hold their own in larger rooms, while still fitting well into corridors and waiting areas. The combination of reduced colour palette, elaborate spray-out technique and clear orientation towards high-quality healthcare and business interiors positions “The Hiding Dragon” firmly in the segment of high-quality original art.
