The 4 Elements – Earth · Water · Fire · Air
Artist: Michael-Alexander Stoll
4 × 100 × 150 cm – acrylic on canvas – original series (4 individual works)

“4 Elements” is a homage to the forces of nature that have enabled life on Earth since the beginning of time: Earth, Water, Fire and Air.
Each painting stands on its own – together they form a closed, interconnected world. The series combines architectural clarity with flowing squeegee structures and is conceived as a visual score that guides a space from grounding through flow and glow to lightness and expanse.

Technical description:
The four large-format works were created in multiple, carefully constructed squeegee layers. Each canvas carries numerous strata that were partially reopened, reworked and harmonised. This creates zones of depth, paths of light and subtle transitions which, across all four works, connect into one shared “energy line”.

At the end of one painting, residual colour and pigment traces were deliberately carried over into the beginning of the next work. This creates a chromatic “kinship” from element to element – the series is interwoven not only in concept, but also in its colour dynamics and structural build-up.

The canvases are stretched on sturdy stretcher frames with a depth of approx. 3.5 cm. The edges are treated as independent image zones and chromatically linked to the front, so the works appear object-like and present from every angle.

Sealed with Swiss varnish in museum quality — hand-sprayed in two layers.

Color psychology & spatial impact:

Earth:
Warm browns, ochres and earth tones form the foundation of this work and evoke fertile soil, harvested fields and mineral-rich layers. Subtle greens, violet nuances and fine gold accents allude to the “natural gold” of the earth – plant growth, raw materials, hidden treasures in the ground.
The organic structures and purple shades symbolise growth, renewal and the power to bring forth something new again and again. Earth has a stabilising, grounding effect and gives a space a calm, supporting base.

Water:
A spectrum of blue, turquoise and petrol, interwoven with broken white and fine gold veins. The squeegee movements create wave-like paths and currents – reminiscent of ocean surfaces or waterways seen from above. Small red and gold accents set pulsating points of energy that recall light reflections on water.
Water brings a calm, flowing dynamism into the room and is particularly suitable for areas where clarity, concentration and a sense of openness are desired.

Fire:
Deep reds, magentas and oranges dominate this work, interspersed with golden lines and openings that evoke sparks, embers and rising heat. The composition deliberately holds more internal tension and density – like a concentrated release of energy.
Fire functions as a powerful statement piece that conveys courage, passion and determination without feeling aggressive.

Air:
Violet, magenta and rose gradations merge with delicate traces of light and fine, translucent structures. The surface appears like floating veils or dissolved cloud layers – light, breathing, spacious. Air conveys ease, inspiration and a quiet, contemplative elevation and forms the airy, clarifying counterpart to the denser energies of Earth, Water and Fire.

Across all four works, the shared glossy surface ensures a unified, gallery-ready appearance. The depth of the layers remains clearly legible, and reflections move softly and calmly across all elements – ideal for presentations in daylight, spotlighting and changing lighting situations.

Recommended placement:
The complete “4 Elements” edition unfolds its full impact as a closed ensemble – ideal across several wall sections or along a visual axis in foyers, reception areas, meeting zones, executive floors, high-end showrooms or exclusive private residences.
Depending on the architecture, the works can be installed in a line, as a 2+2 arrangement, as a block or distributed across multiple levels, forming a continuous visual narrative.

Price structure & collector value:
This series belongs to the high-ranking works within the oeuvre of Michael-Alexander Stoll. Four originals in a 100 × 150 cm format together form an independent collector’s unit – technically elaborate, conceptually clear and with strong recognisability.

The combination of consistent squeegee technique, museum-grade surface, the clear four-elements concept (Earth, Water, Fire, Air) and the fact that the series is sold exclusively as a complete edition makes “4 Elements” a long-term strong collector’s piece – especially for companies, practices, law firms or private collectors who wish to set a clear, coherent line in their space with a single ensemble.
